Biennial General Council Meetings

The Biennial General Council Meeting, often referred to as the BGCM, is the main democratic event for the organisation and all affiliates have an opportunity to set the strategic direction of the organisation in the future. The BGCM takes place every two years, usually in May, and information about past BGCM’s can be found on the right-hand side.

Young Members' Development Weekends

The Young Members’ Development Weekend is an annual event that aims to inspire young trade unionists by giving them the tools they need to become more active within Trade Union Movement by providing inspiration, learning and networking opportunities, as well as a real chance to develop their skills, extend their knowledge and create links with other trade unions. It’s a weekend where members can meet others like them from different unions, share their experiences, realise they aren’t alone in facing the issues they do at work and understand that collectively they are stronger not only to make a difference in their jobs, but actually within the Trade Union Movement too. The event covers everything including; equality and discrimination, trade unions, the history of the movement, employment rights, campaigning in different forms, politics, media and economics, here and abroad.

We have used the arts and culture to explore the past and several of these are shown below. Some of our events have been a joint effort, with a variety of our partners.
