The three-month handover period for the incoming GFTU General Secretary Gawain Little is progressing really well. Doug Nicholls commented: ‘A smooth transition of leadership is guaranteed at the GFTU, and the strengths of the staff team are set to flourish in the period ahead. I have no doubt that Gawain is going to lead a very exciting new future for our fantastic and increasingly important organisation. Speaking beneath the iconic Epstein sculpture at Congress House, Gawain said: ‘I am greatly looking forward to our first Executive Committee meeting in July at the Durham Gala where unions will discuss how to shape a future that builds on the excellent work of the Federation and opens up new support opportunities for our affiliates. As inflation rages and profits soar and the value of wages fall trade unions have urgent work to do.’
